Youth for Christ Australia is part of YFC International, a Christian inter-denominational, non-profit, evangelical youth movement operating in over 110 countries. At its core, YFC is a movement of people unified by a common heart for Jesus and for young people.

It is our desire for all young people to encounter Jesus, to experience radical freedom and to truly understand their identity as sons and daughters of God.

Scripture warns us that the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. And that is exactly what has been happening to the young people in our nation who are being taken out by suicide, anxiety, porn addiction, brokenness, meaninglessness and confusion.

A Rich History

For over seventy years, Youth for Christ has been communicating the life-changing message of Jesus Christ to young people.

In the mid 1940s God touched dozens of leaders in different locations with a concern to reach out to those young people that many churches were missing.

Dynamic young evangelists used revolutionary methods to start lively mass rallies in more than a dozen cities, under the common name, Youth for Christ in the USA and abroad. By November 1944, it was clear that an organisation should be formed to handle the growing flood of requests to start new rallies.

A Chicago pastor, Torrey Johnson, was elected chairman of a temporary committee. He opened an office in Chicago and asked a young man named Billy Graham to become the first full-time Youth for Christ worker. Less than a year later, Youth for Christ International, Inc., was formally incorporated with Torrey Johnson as the first president.

Cindy McGarvie

Cindy has a long history working with Christian non-profit organisations. For 12 years she and her husband dedicated their lives to serving in Uganda and Tanzania with SIL International in the work of Bible translation and language development among marginalised people groups.

On returning to Australia in 2010, Cindy worked as Missions Director for a large church in Brisbane. She worked in various roles in both the public and not-for-profit sectors and served as the President of the P&C of her daughter’s school up until 2019. Cindy was appointed CEO of Youth for Christ Australia in June 2015. Cindy currently serves on the boards of Wycliffe Australia and Australian Institute of Family Counselling (AIFC).

Her true desire has always been to see lives transformed by the Gospel and that’s why she is passionate about Youth for Christ.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Cindy is an avid reader and loves the great outdoors. She and her husband live in the Northern Rivers of NSW.

She is the author of three books:
